What is the difference in the scale bar legend types.

I have asked to plot the epsilon (y) but in the scale bar if I click legend type it comes with many options like: legend, tolerance legend, min, max, range, arith mean, sigma., since depends of the option the scale bar changes the number values. 

What are the differences among those values? Min and Max is pretty clear but the rest?
