Average Strain within Rectangle

Is there way to calculate average strain over a predefined geometry such as a rectangle? I can create a surface component with a hand drawn polygon, but was looking for something more precise like one that is based on a rectangle.

Hi Austin,

you can create a "component region". (Operations→ Component → Component Region) where you can select a region upon your surface component.

With the selection tool "Select inside Cube" (Edit → Selection in 3D → other selections → Select inside Cube) you can create a defined cube. Every connection between nodal points within the Cube will be selected and a region will be created.

This region is not 100% rectangle but nearly.

I hope this helps.

Greetings, Ivan

Hi Ivan,

I could make a rectangular frame out of the surface component with your explanations. Now, can you please guide me how can I calculate the average strain over this rectangular area?

Dear Nasser,

open the I-Inspect or go the long way via the inspection menu and search for the inspection you like to calculate. Then you find the average in this area.
