Best fit Alignment algorithm

I would like to ask about the best fit alignment algorithm (either the best fit option in pre-alignment or the local best fit alignment)?

Is it ICP (iterative closest point) and is there any reference?

Hi,

it is something comparable like the ICP. We try to find a transformation which minimizes the sum of the squared deviations from the actual point cloud to the nominal one. The deviations are calculated from the actual point cloud to the triangle surface structure of the nominal CAD.

The Bestfit-Option in the Prealignment does the Local-Bestfit calculation automatically after a successful prealignment calculation. The only difference is that automatically all points are used (in the Local Bestfit you can specify the areas which shall be considered via point selection) and the maximum search distance is automatically estimated from internal parameters from the prealignment step.
