Deleting small objects

In the process of cleaning up a mesh, is there a way to select (with a function) any objects/triangles that aren't connected to the main body of the object you are interested in, i.e. select all triangles that are connected to a body, then invert that selection?

Sorry, just found the answer to my own question.

Using 'Select Patch' > 'Invert Selection'

I  suppose a different question then, is there a way to check if the mesh is manifold and watertight?

Would "Close Holes" be the correct method for this? I am not sure if this is correct but seems to make sense to me.

Hi, 

in the properties of the mesh you can see the number of holes:

There is a function "eliminate mesh errors", which displays errors with the mesh (and might fix them) but it is usually not necessary:
