Updating projects with new VMR cell calibration info

We recently had our Scanbox 5120 cell re-located and re-calibrated by our local GOM partner, Capture3D.  We were provided with new project templates for each measuring volume that included the latest cell calibration information.  We were told that we would need to update any existing project templates with this new VMR cell calibration by dragging our project into the new template and then saving the result as the updated template.  However, when we do this, our existing measurement series data gets deleted, which results in extensive re-programming time.  Is there another method to update the cell calibration information in existing project templates?

Thanks,

Hello,

Yes, exchanging the VMR is the correct way how to adapt existing project templates to a new cell calibration. The software adapts the existing programs to the new geometric situation. You can use Scripting - Tools - UpdateProjectTemplates - Start... to do this automatically for all your templates.

What do you mean by "existing measurement series data gets deleted"? This should not happen. Automatic calculated scan masks and automatic exposure times are reset and will be recalculated on the next measurement. (We recommend to save the template again after the measurement to fixate the new masks and exposure times in this case.) If the geometric change is somewhat bigger, some (or all) of the measurements will be slightly relocated in the VMR with the consequence that the robot path is changed and needs re-validation. You can prevent this possible relocation by setting "VMR reference coordinates" to "Positions in robot axis coordinates" in the (expert) parameters of the nominal measurement series before exchanging the VMR if the project is a "parts project".

Measuring data (i.e. result data, i.e. measurement meshes) is normally not included in project templates.

Thank you for your response, Matthias.

Apparently, the templates that Capture3D left with us were not set up correctly.  We were told to drag our existing project into the templates with the new VMR.  This only brought in the CAD, Mesh, and inspection plan.  What we learned later on was that we should drag their template into the existing project and select "Replace VMR"; however, the way Capture3D configured the file would not show us that option.

I believe our issue has been resolved, but it would be helpful if Capture3D would provide better support and instructions following their service visits.

Ah, thank you for the information. Some side note: In current software versions, the option "Replace VMR" is only shown if importing a gelements file containing a VMR, not if importing a whole project (atos or ginspect file). Omitting this import option helps reducing the number of import options for whole projects but apparently may lead to confusion. However, a workaround is simple: Select the VMR in the project to import and choose "File - Export - Export selected elements" and import the gelements instead. Nevertheless, we should re-think this and avoid the confusion.
