GD&T profile check of surface points?

Do we have the ability to perform a GD&T profile check on a set of surface points?

Hi Aaron,

In my opinion, it is not possible to check the surface profile because the nominal geometry is missing at this point. However, you can at least inspect surface points for flatness (that would be a surface profile without datum). The procedure would be as follows:

1) Right-click on the surface points, then Select all Points
2) Construct -> Plane -> Fitting Plane
3) Inspect this plane for flatness in I-Inspect

1) Construct nominal surface patch

2) Construct nominal surface points

3) Apply a GD&T profile check for points using the following dialog options...

    Point list to be checked --> Select the points

    Nominal feature to base tolerance zone on --> Select the nominal surface patch

it sounded to me like you don't have nominal geometry, otherwise you can of course do it the way you described.

yes, you can check surface profiles on surface points if the nominal surface is constructed as a patch compound and the actual surface points are inserted into a point cloud. The neccesary construction steps are shown in the attached video.

Is this a new feature for the 2023 version?  I tried this process with my 2018 version but it gives me an invalid element error when I attempt to apply the GD&T profile control to the surface patch compound.

Computation of surface profile on point clouds was introduced with the 2022 release of the software.
