Better way to align maxillary arches

Hi, I need to overlap maxillary arches with dentition as accurately as possible, taken from the same patient at different time intervals (all within 1 year) to evaluate soft tissues after surgery.

My problem is ensuring accurate overlapping of the maxillary arches with the pre-surgery scan that I use as CAD.

I have used pre-alignment and local best fit, selecting the occlusal table of different teeth as reference surfaces.

With local best fit, the overlap is completely altered several times, and the overlap results are incorrect.

How can I ensure better overlap?

Thanks for your help !

Hello,

is it possible to derive some geometric features like lines, points etc. from the data? If the two meshes differ, you have to define some kind of area of interest for the alignment or the same spot on the same tooth for example. The features can be used for an alignment by geometric element, RPS or something else.
There is also the possibility to restrict a best-fit in the expert parameters with movement in plane for example, maybe that helps.
